Bangor RNLI receives £1,500 donation from local football team
Ballyholme Beach Football Club president Sir Patrick Coghlin presented members of Bangor RNLI with a cheque for £1500 as a result of a raffle and auction at their 60th anniversary celebration dinner in Royal Ulster Yacht Cub.
The Ballyholme Beach footballers were unofficially formed in 1965 by a group of friends and local rugby players who wanted to train on the sands of Ballyholme beach in the off season. The team has been a regular fixture on the beach since then and draws quite a crowd of spectators.
Sir Patrick recognised the fact that both the BBFC and Bangor RNLI were celebrating their 60th anniversaries this year and are an integral part of the local community.
Glen McMahon, Bangor RNLI crew member, said: ‘The RNLI is reliant on voluntary donations from groups such as the Ballyholme Bay Footballers. That’s why donations such as this are so welcome. We appreciate this kind contribution, which will be put to great use in saving lives at sea.”
