150 Years of Lurgan College

Lurgan College is proud to be celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and to mark this remarkable milestone in the history of the school an anniversary dinner was held on Friday 16 June in the Seagoe Hotel, Portadown.

The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for staff, pupils, governors and parents from each of the last eight decades to enjoy an evening of nostalgia and entertainment and share fond memories of their time at the College.

NI Children to Lapland

NI Children to Lapland Trust held their charity gala ball on Saturday 27 May in the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel, Bangor.

Focus Menswear were the main sponsor for the event with attendees bidding in the auction and dancing the night away to raise funds to help children fighting illness throughout NI by giving them a day they and their families will never forget.

Whiskey Week in the Big Smoke

Youth Lyric Dinner

Dunmurry Golf Club was the venue for the Youth Lyric end-of-term dinner, which celebrated a highly successful year for the charity.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception on the terrace before moving inside the clubhouse where a presentation was made to Head of Dance, Jane Stewart, marking her 35 years of service to the charity.

A Day at the Races

The sun and the style were out in full force for Ladies’ Day at Down Royal on 24th June.

Day two of the Summer Festival of racing saw the fashionistas turn out for the Best Dressed Competition which was won by Maria McAvoy from Annaclone in Co. Down, pictured left.

247th Anniversary of US Independence

The Consul General of the United States of America, Paul Narain, and his wife Stefanie Narain, recently held a reception in celebration of 247 years of US independence.

The guest of honour was Special Envoy to Northern Ireland for Economic Affairs, Joseph P. Kennedy III.

At this year’s event they celebrated the role and contribution of young entrepreneurs to Northern Ireland.

RSUA

The Royal Society of Ulster Architects Design Awards 2023 took place on Friday 19 May.

The event was held at Parliament Buildings, Stormont to celebrate the best works of architecture in Northern Ireland.

Among the winners were McGonigle McGrath who won the RSUA House of the Year Award and also the Liam McCormick Prize for Building of the Year 2023.

The event was sponsored by Department of Communities, JP Corry, Metal Technology and Housing Executive.

IEF Ball

The IEF May Ball was held on Wednesday 24th May at the Europa Hotel, Belfast.

The ball was a celebration of the life of Baroness May Blood and her contribution to integrated education in Northern Ireland.

Successful CIOB Annual Dinner

Over 190 people attended the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) annual dinner event at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast on Friday 19th May 2023.

Master of Ceremonies was John Campbell, BBC Northern Ireland Economics and Business Editor.

Speakers were Roger Gillespie, chair of the CIOB Northern Ireland Hub committee, as well as Caroline Gumble, Chief Executive Officer of the CIOB.

Popular TV personality Paddy Raff provided the post-dinner entertainment.

Sponsors of the event were Hays, Off the Wall Creative, Tughans, Training LMS, Quigg Golden and Keystone Lintels.

The CIOB is the world’s largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership.

Colin Middleton Gallery Opening

Belfast Royal Academy was delighted to recently open The Colin Middleton Gallery, as a tribute to this famous former pupil.

Fine art reproductions of eleven of his drawings and paintings are displayed in the school’s Darbyshire Building.

Colin was one of Ireland’s most outstanding artists of the twentieth century.

The school is extremely grateful to former pupil, Dr Brian Metcalfe, for the curation and donation of the Gallery.
